A very busy \u2018in demand\u2019 band led by accomplished singer-songwriter Ian Walker, with Jimmy Scott, Moe Walker and specially for this performance, John Graham.  The band play traditional and contemporary music  on guitar, bass, fiddle, mandolin, banjo and vocals.  All band members are highly experienced players, who are Scottish-based, but perform throughout the UK and Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ian has won various singing awards and in 2013 reached the semi-final of the International Songwriters\u2019 Competition in Nashville.  His songs have been recorded by a large number of artists, a true indication of success for a songwriter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gary currently pays with the famous Atholl Highlanders, is the presenter of the podcast \u2018Enjoy Your Piping\u2019, ex Ceolbeg, Caledon and Clan Alba. Greg plays with Other Roads, Burach, ex Caledon and the Kathryn Tickell Band.

A unique father and daughter duo from Manchester. When we say Louise is an \u2018outstanding singer,\u2019 we are not exaggerating!  One English folk club organiser claimed she has the finest voice in the current English folk scene.  No wonder she won the Great British Folk Festival\u2019s Introducing Stage Audience Award in January 2023  Her voice has been compared with the great Joan Baez and the late Julie Felix.  \u201cHer arrangements of traditional and original material suit her pure and soaring voice\u201d said another folk music organiser.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chris\u2019 intricate guitar work and smooth vocals sits easy with Lousie\u2019s voice and piano.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All three band members play in various Scottish bands and bring a wealth of experience after many years of performing.  Excellent vocalist Eilidh Grant is joined by superb fiddler Fiona Cuthill and multi-instrumentalist musician Stevie Lawrence on acoustic guitar and bouzouki.  Together they bring a wide range of musical influences to create their unique sound which is both traditional and contemporary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All band members have appeared at Craigie before with different groups, including the Wendy Weatherby Band Celtic Quines and Real Time.  Stevie was for a time a member of the internationally renowned Red Hot Chilli Pipers.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ayrshire-based The Quiggs are a husband-and-wife duo performing on guitars, bodhran, banjo and voice, and are always popular with our Craigie audiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stephen is well known as a solo performer and a member of the former McCalmans folk band.  Together with his wife Pernile, the result is a duo with wonderful harmony singing. They perform a mixture of Scottish traditional and contemporary music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Plaidsong feature Syd on guitar and vocals and Nicky on vocals.  Their Scottish traditional songs are always fitted into a historical background, while their own compositions are notable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nicky and Syd are both well experienced performers and also acclaimed authors.  Nicky has won various awards for her singing.  Syd, as well as being a talented musical performer, also has an MBE for his lifetime services to forestry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The standard of their performance is excellent – sympathetic guitar playing meets wonderful singing !<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wendy Weatherby, is a hugely talented cello player, singer, actor, teacher, musical director and composer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wendy is always a busy music practitioner.  She runs two Edinburgh-based choirs, is involved with Music in Hospitals, provides cello on numerous recordings, works in theatre, does corporate events, as well as performing with her band at folk music clubs and festivals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The other three band members are hugely experienced and well known musicians in their own right.  They are Fiona Cuthill on fiddle, Sandy Brechin on accordion and Stevie Lawrence on multi-instruments.  These three also perform in other Scottish folk bands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The band perform mainly Scottish traditional music and song.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

John started playing folk music in the sixties co-founding \u2018The Clydesiders\u2019 until they disbanded in 2000.  He played on many of their TV and Radio shows, as well as making 10 albums.  John plays a number of instruments, including Fiddle, Mandolin and Guitar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jim\u2019s introduction to folk music was in the Edinburgh folk scene in the sixties, branching out to rock music in the 80\u2019s and 90\u2019s, before returning to his folk music roots.  Jim plays guitar with vocals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The band are joined by Cy Jack on bass and keyboards, an experienced musician who played many times with the Clydesiders, as well as being involved in many of their recordings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The trio are very busy, playing mainly folk clubs throughout the UK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their act evokes much of the spirit of folk clubs in the past, with an emphasis on songs with easy choruses for audience participation, and includes humour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

British-born, South African raised, world travelled, Dave Mason\u2019s songs are about places he has been, people he has met, life, love, the seasons and war.  Now settled in Hamilton, some of his songs have a Scottish setting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dave has piped since school – pipe bands, solo piping and writing music for the Highland Pipes.  During Covid, when piping almost ceased to exist, he started playing guitar again in on-line music sessions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dave\u2019 s performance will include his own songs and well known popular classics from the 70’s and 80’s<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is over twenty-five years since we first put Jim on in concert, and we have been rebooking him ever since!   He is now joined by his wife Susie, a fine traditional singer in her own right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jim has performed extensively in the UK, Europe and North America.  This includes every state in America except four, including states as far apart as Alaska and Hawaii.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jim is a particularly fine interpreter of the songs of Robert Burns, often singing lesser-known songs of the Bard.  He also performs his own compositions.  Both Susie and Jim have fine voices, accompanied by meticulous guitar and harmonica playing.  Together they offer great harmonies and humour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There will be two support acts.  We have a Craigie first for both of these!  An ensemble from the famous Ayrshire Fiddle Orchestra, well known and well loved.  Also we have the talented brothers Andy and David Morton on guitar and vocals, performing traditional, contemporary and David\u2019s own compositions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are always delighted to have an overseas guest, especially one making a return visit to Craigie, the last being in 2016.  On tour from Nova Scotia, he regularly performs throughout the UK, and is in big demand here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dan is a singer-songwriter, with a rich and expressive baritone voice, which he accompanies himself on guitar.  His self-penned material tells of stories of Canadian life and culture.  He was very influenced by the singing of the late and great Canadian singer Stan Rogers, and there are close similarities in their respective singing styles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With Scottish roots, he is always delighted to be back in Scotland, and we are delighted to have him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are honoured to have students from the National Centre of Excellence in Traditional Music at Plockton Wester Ross perform at Craigie. These students, aged 13 to 18, are the cream of Scotland\u2019s young traditional musicians. The concert features the students in various combinations, playing a diverse range of instruments with all of them playing together in a powerful finale. The standard of musicianship is outstanding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
